AI Theme Park Navigation

Idea #001 - Issue #002

So, Idea #001 - Issue #001 was actually an old project draft I just kinda... unleashed. Truth is, I wrapped this thing up about a year ago (almost to the day!), and I figured it was time to fire up this newsletter again and keep rolling with building cool stuff that probably nobody needs (ba-dum-tss!).

Anyway, to bring you up to speed on the last thing before we dive into the next shiny project:

Recap of the Last Thing:

So, about that last post...

The app's called: AllTheLines.

For the colors...

When I was putting the app together, I decided to roll my own navigation setup. The standard Ionic stuff just didn't seem to use the screen space in the best way for this project, especially if someone's trying to use it with one hand while wrangling kids or whatever.

I also threw in an RSS feed section so you can get all the latest theme park news and info from some of the big blogs while you're on the go.

Now, when I was working on the whole gamification bit, keeping privacy front and center was a big deal for me. So, when you download the app, it gives you a random, fun username – no sign-ups, no emails, no real names. Everything you do in the app, including where you show up on the leaderboards, is tied to that generated name.

Under the Hood (Technology Stuff):

  • Framework: Good old Ionic with Capacitor.

  • For getting you around the parks with turn-by-turn directions from where you are to that awesome ride you're beelining for, I'm using the Google Maps API.

  • To give you the lowdown on each ride and attraction with cool images and descriptions, I've got Google's Gemini doing its AI magic.

  • To help you figure out the best plan of attack for the day – predicting crowds and suggesting what to hit next to maximize your park time – I'm using TensorFlow for some machine learning smarts.

  • The website's just chilling on some free hosting with a template from unicornplatform.com: https://allthelines.unicornplatform.page/

  • Firebase is holding down the fort for the database.

  • And to get all the real-time info on park hours and which rides are open, closed, or down, I'm tapping into these APIs:

  • Oh yeah, and you can actually snag it right now on the Google Play Store 🙂 : https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.allthelines.mobile

Looks and Feels (Design Stuff):

Used Brandmark.io to whip up the logo, pick the color scheme, and suggest fonts and all that branding jazz.

What's Next?

Uhhh... nothing much on this front, to be honest. This project is pretty much done unless it starts getting some serious love.

So, onto the next adventure!
